The haunting painting that made me dream of Samsung’s Color E-Paper

Here's a rather unusual story of a personal quest to find a painting for my living room. I know, it probably sounds odd. It might even sound like it has nothing to do with Samsung, but trust me, it does. More specifically, it relates to the Color E-Paper signage that Samsung released earlier this year. I wish I could buy one, but I can't.The backstory is, I've been thinking of buying a painting for my living room since I came across Haupt der Medusa by Franz von Stuck a few weeks ago. I can't help but be drawn in by this painting, by Medusa's piercing gaze. It's mesmerizing. I guess that was the artist's goal — to create a hypnotizing Medusa portrait — and it sure has that effect on me, which is part of why I find the art piece so fascinating.I could buy a recreation of this painting, but in the end, I thought that, as much as I like looking at this piece of art, it might not be the best choice to have as the one centerpiece in my living room. It is somewhat haunting, so having just this one painting in the room might look too unusual, even for me.Leaving aside my fascination with this art piece, I began looking for a more generic painting — something that would simply fill an empty spot on my living room wall. A more practical solution, if you will.Samsung's Color E-Paper invades my thoughtsThat's when it hit me. Can I have my cake and eat it too? Wouldn't it be awesome to have that 32-inch EMDX Color E-Paper signage that Samsung released earlier this year on my wall?I could use that as a digital painting and change its design whenever I want. Haupt der Medusa one day, and generic squiggly lines another. But my excitement was cut short when I realized I can't buy the 32-inch EMDX E-Paper screen. The perfect solution, just not obtainable by meUnfortunately, while I think the EMDX sounds like the perfect versatile digital painting for my room, Samsung hasn't marketed the Color E-Paper display as a commercial device for the average consumer. The company only sells the 32-inch EMDX Color E-Paper to business customers and offers discounts for bulk orders. This is an enterprise device through and through. So, why? Why hasn't Samsung thought about selling this display as a digital painting for everyone? The consumer electronics arm hasn't shied away from unveiling at least one unusual new display this year, i.e., the portable Moving Style TV with a handle/kickstand. So, why not the E-Paper?Best hardware for the Art Store? The 32-inch EMDX Color E-Paper is thin and can be powered by batteries. It's colorful, it has a QHD resolution, and it barely consumes energy with its 0.00W rating on static images.Furthermore, Samsung already runs the Art Store platform on 2025 TVs and The Frame series. The app offers access to more than a thousand iconic photos and paintings. The EMDX Color E-Paper and the Art Store could be a match made in heaven. And the more I think about it, the more I think Samsung missed an opportunity here. Need an Art Store TV? Browse The Frame Pro offers Samsung Shop Or maybe I just can't see the bigger picture, no pun intended, and I wish I could have an interchangeable, high-quality digital painting in my living room but can't grasp Samsung's business side of things. It could be that the EMDX doesn't make sense as a consumer device. Maybe Samsung thought about it and couldn't make it work. Perhaps the EMDX would be too expensive for just a digital painting. Or unknown technical limitations might stand in the way. Regardless, I still wish I had one.For now, I will have to look for an alternative. I'll probably settle for a cheap painting from IKEA and hope that Samsung will one day make a consumer-grade Color E-Paper screen happen. Maybe Samsung will soon realize it has the technology to provide home décor solutions. The post The haunting painting that made me dream of Samsung’s Color E-Paper appeared first on SamMobile.
