The agency seized a total of Rs 26 lakh in cash including bribes and unaccounted money.The accused have been identified as Rajendra Rawat, a joint chief controller of explosives attached with the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO), West Circle Office, Navi Mumbai, and a private person, Rahul Bachate. Both were produced in the court and remanded in custody till October 1.The agency registered a case on the basis of information received about large-scale corrupt practices allegedly committed by the joint chief controller of explosives, in collusion with private consultants and agents.As per the CBI release, the trap operation was carried out in Navi Mumbai and Bachate was intercepted after he delivered a package at the residence of Rawat. When questioned, he confessed that he allegedly delivered a bribe of Rs 9 lakh at Rawat’s place and the amount was given to his wife. Based on the confession, the agency raided Rawat’s residence and allegedly recovered the amount. The agency also seized an extra unaccounted cash of Rs 7.5 lakh. When the family members and Rawat were questioned, they could not provide the source of both the cash and so both amounts were seized, said a CBI official.The officials then carried out searches at Rawat’s office, where another agent was found sitting, who confessed to having brought Rs 8 lakh for delivery as illegal gratification. The agency seized the cash from the agent’s vehicle which was parked nearby. One more person, an architect by profession, was also found in the office and when questioned, he too confessed that he allegedly brought Rs 1.5 lakh as a bribe for another public servant.
