Crystal Palace 2-1 Liverpool: Player Ratings

Wait 5 sec.

Far too many Liverpool players were off the boil in their last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace, with only Alisson hitting his top level.Crystal Palace 2-1 LiverpoolPremier League (6) | Selhurst ParkSeptember 27, 2025Goals: Sarr 9′, Nketiah 90+7′; Chiesa 87′Alisson (out of 10) – 9 (Man of the Match)Most Liverpool players were poor, but Alisson definitely wasn’t one of them. The Reds’ No. 1 kept his side in the game in the first half, making great saves to deny Yeremy Pino, Daniel Munoz and Jean Philippe-Mateta.The best goalkeeper in the world.Conor Bradley – 4Bradley came back into the side at the expense of Jeremie Frimpong, with the latter still adjusting to life at Liverpool. The Northern Irishman was all at sea defensively, however, with Palace constantly targeting Liverpool’s right-hand side.Substituted at half-time and could have few complaints about that.Ibrahima Konate – 4When Konate is bad, he is really bad.He was shocking in the opening 45 minutes, losing possession that nearly led to Pino making it 2-0, and generally proving to be an erratic presence.Headed wide at the other end and also got booked – on this evidence, the excellent Marc Guehi would have started over him if he’d sealed a move to Liverpool!Virgil van Dijk – 6When even Van Dijk is short of his best, you know Liverpool have had a bad day. While others were far worse on the day, the skipper was still part of a defence that got torn to shreds by Palace at times.Hard to fault him for too much individually, though.Milos Kerkez – 4Kerkez came back in for Andy Robertson but he struggled to produce a convincing performance here. The Hungarian was guilty of being too safe in possession, and he when he did play the ball forward, his accuracy was lacking. Not good at either end of the pitch and needlessly conceded the throw-in that Eddie Nketiah scored the winner from.Ryan Gravenberch – 6Gravenberch’s form has been a joy and his influence was always going to be key against an in-form Palace side.He was one of the best of a very bad bunch, forcing Dean Henderson to tip his shot onto the post. Again asked to drop into defence as the attacking wildcard.Alexis Mac Allister – 5Mac Allister’s form and fitness have not been at their best yet this season. The Argentine again failed to find the brilliance that he did in his opening two seasons at Anfield, looking leggy at times.Replaced in the second half – finding it very hard to play a full 90 at the moment.Dominik Szoboszlai – 6Along with Van Dijk and Gravenberch, Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s best player this season, and he was arguably Liverpool’s best outfield performer. He wasn’t always able to find the guile to break down a well-drilled Eagles defence, but a lovely cross should have been converted by Florian Wirtz, and he forced Henderson into a great stop.Did well at right-back in the second half.Mohamed Salah – 5So often this season Salah has felt on the periphery of the action, and the same applied here.He was hugely quiet throughout, with one free-kick into the wall about as good as it got, as well as teeing up Alexander Isak for one chance.Salah no longer has the blistering pace to be an explosive match-winner for Liverpool and Palace handled him with relative ease.Florian Wirtz – 5Wirtz started in a left-sided role in place of Cody Gakpo, as he looks to spark his Liverpool career into life.Again, though, he really struggled to stamp his authority on proceedings, and while he is getting used to his new club, more is required.Neat and tidy, and more involved in a central role after the interval, but missed a glorious chance to make it 1-1.Alexander Isak – 5Isak made his first Premier League start for Liverpool, looking to build on his first goal for the club in midweek. The Reds’ record signing is still clearly far from fully match fit, shooting wide but doing little to affect things positively.More involved after the break, like so many, and fired wide after some good footwork. Also headed over from close range. SubstitutesCody Gakpo (on for Bradley, 46′) – 6Shot wide and made a difference with his directness.Curtis Jones (on for Mac Allister, 65′) – 5A forgettable cameo, losing the ball cheaply on one occasion.Federico Chiesa (on for Wirtz, 74′) – 7Curled just wide before making it 1-1 with a clinical finish.Jeremie Frimpong (on for Konate, 74′) – 5Sloppy touches and fouls conceded. Disappointing.Rio Ngumoha (on for Isak, 84′) – n/aNo time to make an impactSubs not used: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Robertson, Endo Arne Slot – 5This was one of Liverpool’s biggest tests of the season to date, with Arne Slot knowing the significance of three points.Liverpool’s starting lineup was an exciting one, with Gakpo understandably on the bench after some iffy form, so there were no qualms with his team. For that reason, Slot should be so disappointed with the performance that his side produced, especially during a dire opening 45 minutes. The second-half display was better, but to lose after equalising late on is so sloppy. This result had arguably been coming and a response is needed at Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
