Millet will now be procured at Rs. 2,200 per quintal and Rs. 575 per quintal will be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts under the ‘Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana’.With this decision, farmers will receive a total payment of Rs.2,775 per quintal for millet procured by the government, matching the Minimum Support Price (MSP) fixed by the Government of India.Sharing information in this regard a spokesperson of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department said that earlier the procurement price was Rs. 2,150 per quintal, and Rs. 625 per quintal was transferred to farmers’ accounts, resulting in the state’s farmers receiving the MSP set by the Government of India.The spokesperson further informed that after reviewing the market rates of millet and keeping the farmers’ interest in mind, this decision has been taken.If private traders purchase millet from farmers in the state through the e-Kharid system at a rate higher than Rs. 2,200 per quintal, the government will still pay farmers Rs. 575 per quintal under the ‘Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana’. In such cases, farmers will benefit by receiving an amount higher than the MSP fixed by the Government of India, the spokesperson added.Notably, to benefit farmers, the state government has already advanced the procurement of millet during the Kharif season 2025-26, which was to start from October 1, and has been started from September 23. A total of 92 mandis/procurement centres have been set up for millet procurement across the state. He emphasized that maintaining cleanliness can help prevent many diseases, and it is everyone’s collective responsibility to make the Swachhata Abhiyan, launched under the able leadership of the Prime Minister, a huge success.*Paddy procurement continues smoothly*In response to a question, the Chief Minister said that paddy procurement is underway smoothly. Efforts are being made to install electronic weighing scales in the markets (mandis). The district administration has appointed officers to oversee procurement arrangements and ensure that paddy is purchased properly in the mandis, he added.Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that during the Congress government, crop loss compensation was rarely provided, and farmers had to wait endlessly, sometimes receiving cheques for just one or two rupees. In contrast, his government has ensured timely payment for crop loss.
