(PTI Photo)Tamil actor-politician Vijay on Saturday expressed grief hours after his campaign rally in Karur ended in a stampede that killed at least 38 people, including 16 women and eight children, and left over 150 hospitalised.A note posted on the official X account of Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam read: “My heart is shattered; I am writhing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that words cannot express. I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of my dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. Several supporters had climbed a tree to catch a better view, but when its branches gave way, they plunged onto the densely packed audience about 50 meters away. The sudden collapse sparked panic, sending shockwaves through the gathering and leaving men, women, and children crushed in the stampede.The state government has announced a Rs 10 lakh compensation for each victim.Besides Vijay, actors and filmmakers such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Mari Selvaraj, among others, took to social media to express their grief over the tragic loss of lives in the Karur stampede.Rajinikanth tweeted, “The tragic loss of innocent lives in Karur is heartbreaking and deeply painful.
