Meghan McCain has made a career out of being the daughter of the late Senator John McCain — and she’d be the first person to tell you that. However, recently she took her proud badge as far as it could go when she said her parents would have never let her address the UN to give her opinion on health issues like Ben Affleck’s 19-year-old daughter. The UN has a volunteer youth program that, according to the UN itself, partly exists to “harness the power of youth to protect the rights of children.” Seemingly, McCain had no idea about this because, as soon as the video of Violet Affleck — conveniently behind the badge of ‘Youth Advocate’ — went viral, where Violet advocated the continued use of masks, McCain declared that this was why people hate “nepo babies.” Everything about all of this is why everyone hates nepo babies so much. https://t.co/oam6KsLKpZ— Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) September 25, 2025 Obviously, McCain was very quickly reminded that she, too, is a nepo baby. She then responded on X, this time with clarification on what exactly her issue with Violet was. McCain stated, “Say whatever you want about me, my parents would have NEVER been okay with me speaking in front of the United Nations at 19 about a health issue I had no background, training or experience in.” Which is odd, because she was just recently speaking out against Ozempic on a nationally televised TV show despite having no background in that either. She has no experience in it either, since she declared she’d never take the semaglutide because she views Ozempic as a “moral issue.” Some journalist are clutching their pearls mad I called Violet Affleck a nepo baby so I'm giving you all a response here instead of answering your emails:First, it takes one to know one. I'm clearly a nepo baby, check my twitter bio.Say whatever you want about me, my parents…— Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) September 25, 2025 It would be remiss not to talk about what Violet was actually discussing, however. Violet cited doctors and studies that reveal that Sars-Covid 2 can result in Long Covid — and that right now, it has surpassed asthma as the most chronic respiratory disease in children. In response to that, she was calling on society to reconsider mask mandates. So, Violet was, in fact, doing exactly what Youth Advocates should do: advocate for children in a place where they have no voice. President Donald Trump’s shenanigans at the UN, where he was complaining about escalators and teleprompters, might have made some forget — but this is actually the main job of the UN. It’s a place where world leaders go to share ideas and consider opinions from experts and good orators about what we should do next. It’s not a place where world leaders usually go to talk about why they should be considered for awards or why air pollution in the US is China’s fault. In the comment section of Meghan McCain, a lot was made about Ben Affleck and his drama-fueled life, and even how he’s a smoker, tying that directly to masks. But at the end of the day, that’s the nuance this nepo baby discussion is oftentimes missing — because each person is ultimately an individual. Ben Affleck, to Violet, is just a parent, and she might have gotten advantages in life because of it, but in everyone’s unique way, hopefully, their parents also helped in their dreams. If McCain wants to debate Violet’s opinions on masks, that’s fine. But it would be better if she stuck to the actual topic at hand.
