(AP Photo/Richard Drew)Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his address at United Nations in New York staged what he called a “pop quiz.” Holding up a poster, he asked: “Who shouts ‘Death to America’?” The answer, he declared, was “All of the above – Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Iran.” He posed another question to the audience: “Who has murdered Americans and Europeans in cold blood?” The response, he said, was the same.“You know deep down that Israel is fighting your fight,” Netanyahu claimed, adding that while some leaders condemn Israel publicly, behind closed doors they praise its intelligence services for preventing attacks in their capitals.Wearing a large QR code on his lapel, Netanyahu told delegates it linked to footage of Hamas atrocities from October 7. He hailed US President Donald Trump as the leader who “understands better than any other” that Israel and the US face a common threat. Trump, he said, showed Iran “there is a price to pay” for funding armed groups, killing Americans, and plotting assassinations.Netanyahu described Israel’s enemies on multiple fronts: Hamas’s October 7, 2023, assault, Hezbollah’s rocket fire from Lebanon, Assad’s cooperation with Iran in Syria, and Houthi missile attacks from Yemen. But he insisted the tide had turned: “We’ve hammered the Houthis, crushed Hamas’s terror machine, crippled Hezbollah by taking out most of its leaders, destroyed Assad’s armaments, deterred Iran’s Shiite militias, and devastated Iran’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles programs.”Referencing Israel’s covert strikes, he added: “We paged Hezbollah and believe me, they got the message. Thousands of terrorists dropped to the ground.”The speech came a day after Trump said he would restrain Netanyahu from annexing parts of the West Bank in retaliation for international recognition of Palestinian statehood. “I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank … It’s not going to happen,” Trump declared. Netanyahu’s rightwing allies have proposed annexing up to 82% of the territory, raising alarm in London and elsewhere that Washington could ultimately endorse the move. Most Read1Trump announces new tariffs on pharmaceuticals, heavy trucks and kitchen cabinets from October 12‘To further strengthen ties with US’: Donald Trump meets Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir at White House3Trump New Tariff List 2025: From pharma to trucks – check full list of new tariffs4H1B visa 2025: Fees, validity period, new rules, latest policy and changes you must know5Amid walkouts, Netanyahu says Israel ‘must finish job in Gaza’, asks Hamas to surrender in UN speech6Who is NASA astronaut Anna Menon? Instead, he targeted Britain, France and other states that recognised Palestine: “You didn’t do something right. You did something wrong, horribly wrong. Your disgraceful decision will encourage terrorism against Jews and against innocent people everywhere.”In the middle of his speech, Netanyahu said that the war in Gaza “has everything to do with people around the world,” warning that Israel’s enemies are also enemies of the West. “Our enemies hate all of us with equal venom,” he said. “They want to drag the modern world back to the past, to a dark age of violence, fanaticism, and terror.”AdvertisementTop story1Trump announces new tariffs on pharmaceuticals, heavy trucks and kitchen cabinets from October 12‘To further strengthen ties with US’: Donald Trump meets Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir at White House3Trump New Tariff List 2025: From pharma to trucks – check full list of new tariffs4H1B visa 2025: Fees, validity period, new rules, latest policy and changes you must know5Amid walkouts, Netanyahu says Israel ‘must finish job in Gaza’, asks Hamas to surrender in UN speechAdvertisementLoading Taboola...
