Keegan Bradley given 0/10 in damning Ryder Cup ratings as one Europe star gets 11/10 with records set to tumble

Wait 5 sec.

Keegan Bradley is staring at the very real prospect of becoming the worst Ryder Cup captain in history. Not only because his USA team are seven points down heading into Sunday, the biggest two-day deficit ever, but because the Americans have been a complete mess.Europe made Bethpage Black feel like a home gameGettyFor all of New York’s attempts to unsettle Europe, the visitors look all-but certain to win away from home for the first time since 2012, unless the hosts can stage their own miracle.Europe need two-and-a-half points from the remaining 12 on offer – but there is something else up for grabs here.Last time the Americans hosted, they dished out the biggest hammering in Ryder Cup history: 19-9.If Europe can win eight points on Sunday, this will officially be the greatest performance in the event’s history, and in such hostile circumstances.Or is it the worst-ever display from their opponents? talkSPORT golf correspondent Rupert Bell runs the rule over both teams with his Ryder Cup ratings…Bryson DeChambeau – 4Team USA’s hype-man finally got a point on Saturday morning, but his day ended in a furious row with Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood. With four different playing partners over the four sessions, DeChambeau has only won a single point.Rupert said: “No American deserves more than 4. They have let not only their captain down but they’ve let the spectators down with their very average display.“DeChambeau all hype and played well in the morning, not going to take that away…“But then his behaviour, getting into that scrap, he should be better than that.“I know he wants to be centre stage but I just think that was unnecessary, uncalled for and getting beaten was the best way to shut him up.”DeChambeau lost his cool towards the end of SaturdayGettyScottie Scheffler – 1In a rather baffling decision, Scheffler was put out alongside DeChambeau in the afternoon fourballs. With the Americans desperate for multiple points, it guaranteed their two biggest talents could only get one – and they did not even do that, losing to Rose and Fleetwood. It means Scheffler, the greatest golfer on earth, is the first player to start 0-4 through the first four sessions of a Ryder Cup since 1967.Rupert said: “The world no.1 gets 1.“This is just one of the most bewildering performances of the week. How can he be so brilliant this year and so bad here?“His shot into 18 in the morning foursomes was as bad as I’ve ever seen.“That match against Fleetwood and Rose in the afternoon was very high quality, you can’t take away from that.“But he made a couple of glaring errors, particularly when the match was conceded on 16, he left it short and that’s unforgivable.”Scheffler is making all the wrong kind of history at this Ryder CupGettyKeegan Bradley – 0There are many directions we could go with this, but there is one decision that illustrates the chaos behind Bradley’s decision-making better than any other.DataGolf ranked all 132 possible US pairings according to statistics – and Collin Morikawa & Harris English ranked 132nd.Bradley rolled them out twice in foursomes, handing Rory McIlroy and Fleetwood two of the easiest victories they could have imagined.Rupert said: “It shows the folly of the decision to make him captain in the first place because he should be playing – and he’s been let down by his team for whatever reason.“They needed a calm head and his head is in the shed. He said they were going to pummel the Europeans on Netflix and the words that he used are much worse.“I’m afraid he is right up there with the worst Ryder Cup captains in history. His decisions are right up there with the most incompetent ever.“I’m sure this is his worst nightmare and he must be feeling dreadful but it is an absolute horror show, you can’t give him any points.”Rupert Bell's Ryder Cup player ratings: Team USABryson DeChambeau – 4Cam Young – 4Harris English – 2Collin Morikawa – 2Xander Schauffele – 4Patrick Cantlay – 2Scottie Scheffler – 1Russell Henley – 2Justin Thomas – 3JJ Spaun – 4Sam Burns – 2Captain Keegan Bradley – 0Rory McIlroy – 10Yet, for all of the Americans’ shortcomings, Europe were outstanding, led by their talisman. From the moment McIlroy blew kisses to the first tee, he was subjected to dogs’ abuse. But that did not stop him delivering two points from two matches in Saturday.Rupert said;=: “He looked as if he was running on empty but summoned up the resources in the end to play quite magnificently and he holed some incredible putts towards the end of the round.“Given what he had to contend with, which was unedifying in the extreme…“Yes, he knows how it is and he plays here all the time, but the level that it was in the early part of the round was testament to his mental fortitude more than anything.“The best moment was on 16 in the morning when he turns around and he tells someone to shut the f*** up and then stiffs it to 4ft and to win the match.“His golf does the talking and he was magnificent. He has to have a ten.”McIlroy had the last laugh with the New York crowdGettyTommy Fleetwood – 10Only one player at this Ryder Cup has played four and won four.Fleetwood now has the best win rate of any player in history to play more than ten matches. And rather incredibly, he is only half a point behind the entire 12 home players combined.Rupert said: “Justin Rose was outstanding in that afternoon match but again, Fleetwood produced bits of magic.“To be 4-0… it’s another extraordinary Ryder Cup for Fleetwood and he’s got to get a ten. He can’t not get a ten.”Fleetwood has been completely unstoppable and could go 5-0 in an away Ryder CupGettyJustin Rose – 11At the age of 45, Rose has a 100 per cent record from his two matches, and he was the superstar today. He fended off DeChambeau and Scheffler by going six-under through his opening eight holes in a truly extraordinary display of golf.Rupert said: “Nobody played better golf than Rose today.“He’s played many Ryder Cups and there’s more to him than just the playing. He’s only played two matches. I think he brings maturity and calmness.“He doesn’t lack for self-confidence, there was a brilliant moment as he walked in a putt.“But from a playing side, he is the father figure. He was in the Medina team that won.“So he knows what it takes – and he is showing everyone it is so much more than just hitting the shots.”Rose was so good his rating had to be off the chartGettyLuke Donald – 11Did somebody say two more years? As Bradley prepares to enter the history books for all the wrong reasons, Donald might go down as one of the greatest Ryder Cup captains ever.Rupert said: “He has been talking about our time, our place. He has told his players to stay calm and he has remained steadfastly calm.“He has managed to get the best out of his players. Which is the polar opposite to his opposite number who has got no one firing.“Every player seems to be willing to bust a gut on behalf of their captain. It’s an impeccable performance and he deserves to come away with an 11 today.“It’s unprecedented. We’ve got an unprecedented lead and it’s down to his management of his men and it has been extraordinary.“He has been magnificent and he knows this will cement his place in Ryder Cup history along with Tony Jacklin and other great captains.“He’ll be looking for the biggest win ever. Our place? He’s made it our bloody manor.”Rupert Bell's Ryder Cup ratings: Team EuropeMatt Fitzpatrick – 7Ludvig Aberg – 5Rory McIlroy – 10Tommy Fleetwood – 10Jon Rahm – 9Tyrrell Hatton – 9Bob MacIntyre – 8Viktor Hovland – 8Shane Lowry – 8Justin Rose – 11Sepp Straka – 5Captain Luke Donald – 11We will see just where Donald ranks in the history books on Sunday.Action resumes at 17:02 UK time and Rupert and I will bring you updates all evening on talkSPORT.
