Netanyahu’s remorseless speech met with UN delegates walking out and an absent Donald Trump

Wait 5 sec.

This day of reckoning was always coming at the United Nations General Assembly. PM Benjamin Netanyahu took the podium to deliver his speech and explain to the world why the war has dragged on for so long, causing so much loss of innocent life without any significant progress toward finally capturing all the terrorists responsible for the October 7th massacre. But before Netanyahu could say a word, delegates walked out as Donald Trump backed him from the White House. As Netanyahu approached the podium, a number of delegates decided they could no longer stomach his rhetoric and staged a symbolic walkout. The situation in Gaza is horrific — reports of famine and violence emerge daily, prompting even unlikely parties to take a stand. The UK, France, Canada, Spain, and several other traditional allies of Israel have now declared that they will recognize a Palestinian state if that is what it takes to stop the catastrophic war in Gaza. pic.twitter.com/UfjmmfoMwv— media (@entplus_) September 26, 2025 The walkout, however, did not deter Netanyahu from sharing his speech with the world. Right off the bat, he congratulated himself for the Hezbollah sting operation in Lebanon where the IDF blew up their pagers. Netanyahu boasted, “You remember those beepers, the pagers, we paged Hezbollah, and believe me, they got the message.” Fox News posted a video on their official X account zooming in on the Israeli delegates giving a rapturous applause to the statement. Netanyahu also claimed that his regime had surrounded Gaza with loudspeakers that would blast his remarks to all the inhabitants — Hamas, Israeli hostages, or civilians alike. CNN, however, could not verify the credibility of this claim. Netanyahu went on to call the nations that have recognized Palestine “insane” and blamed the decision on a biased media. Palestinian leaders were blocked from attending this monumental General Assembly by the Trump administration, but they still managed to post a photo of Netanyahu where he said, “There’s a familiar saying, ‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going’” — to a largely empty room. Trump did, however, tell the media at the White House, “I think we have maybe a deal on Gaza, and very close to a deal on Gaza; it’s looking like we have a deal.” That statement might have been well received — if not for the fact that he has been making the same claim since January 2025. The Israeli opposition leader, Yair Lapid, was reportedly not impressed by Netanyahu’s address. Lapid has demanded that Netanyahu present a clear plan to bring the hostages home and outline a path to end the two-year war. “Instead of stopping the diplomatic tsunami,” Lapid said, “Netanyahu today worsened Israel’s situation.” Despite the mounting pressure, at no point during his speech did Netanyahu acknowledge or show remorse for the countless lives lost in Gaza.
