Since Jimmy Kimmel returned to ABC’s airwaves last week, Disney has been waiting for revenge from the Trump Administration. Reports indicate that Disney has already prepped its legal team for the fight ahead, including the belief that the FCC could try to take away ABC’s broadcasting license. On a post to his Truth Social, Trump promised a 100 percent tariff on all films made outside of the United States. While this might not seem like a shot at Disney, it is. Disney and most other film production companies have moved their filming overseas for the tax benefits. This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda!”The change would especially impact Disney as the company has moved most of its production to the United Kingdom in recent years. Just this year alone, Disney moved production on Fantastic Four: First Steps, and the latest Spider-Man and Avengers films from Georgia to England. Just this year, Disney received over $50 million from the British government for filming the live-action Snow White there. This helped the movie nearly break even after its box office disaster. Trump made this same threat against the film industry earlier this year; however, up until this morning, nothing had come of it. It is still unclear just how the 100 percent tariff will work. Would the money be charged on the production costs or the box office receipts? These are the details that still need to be worked out. While this will impact the entire film industry, most of which films outside the country, Disney would be especially impacted now that it has moved to England from Georgia. The cost would double if they had to bring their production back to the United States.
