Out of 266 victims in 238 registered cases, 53.8% of the victims were from the Asian Continent (143) followed by 20.7% of victims from European Countries (55),” the report shows.While Delhi topped the list with 63 cases of crimes against foreigners, Karnataka reported 32 cases, Himachal Pradesh 22 cases, Maharashtra 19, Haryana 18 and Kerala saw 17 cases.Also Read | NCRB report for 2023: Cybercrimes rise by 31.2%, maximum cases linked to fraudCases of crimes committed by foreigners rose to 2,546 in 2023 as compared to 2,100 in 2022, showing an increase of 21.2%. “Crime head-wise cases revealed that 48.5% of the cases registered were under Foreigners Act and Registration of Foreigners Act (1,234 cases), followed by 17.7% of cases under Passport Act (451 cases),” it said.Offences against propertyThe report also shows that cases registered under offences against property have increased by 4.7% from 8,39,252 in 2022 to 8,78,307 in 2023. In 2023, maximum 6,89,580 cases reported were of theft, followed by burglaries with 1,07,573 cases, accounting for 78.5% and 12.2% respectively. “During 2023, properties worth Rs 6,917.2 crore were stolen and properties worth Rs 2,065 crore were recovered, accounting for 29.9% recovery of stolen properties,” it shows.According to the annual report, India recorded a 7.2% jump in cognizable crimes in 2023, with more than 62.4 lakh cases registered across the country. “The report shows that 37.6 lakh cases were registered under the Indian Penal Code and 24.7 lakh under Special and Local Laws. While IPC crimes rose by 5.7%, SLL cases saw an even sharper rise of 9.5% compared to 2022. The overall crime rate per lakh population climbed from 422.2 in 2022 to 448.3 in 2023,” the report says.Story continues below this ad“Motor Vehicle Act violations doubled, rising from 94,450 to 1.92 lakh cases, contributing heavily to the overall increase.
