ALBA-TCP stated that these actions violate both the Zone of Peace Proclamation adopted by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in 2014 and the Treaty of Tlatelolco, which establishes Latin America and the Caribbean as a region free of nuclear weapons. The foreign ministers denounced the incident involving the US warship USS Jason Dunham (DDG-109) intercepting the Venezuelan fishing vessel Carmen Rosa in waters of the Venezuelan exclusive economic zone and detaining nine fishermen for eight hours. ALBA-TCP considered the action as a violation of maritime sovereignty, food security, and human rights. They also criticized the extrajudicial executions in the Caribbean Sea, acknowledged by the US government itself, and warned that Washington is trying to turn the region into a scene of confrontation and militarization.Venezuela to Declare State of External Unrest After Trump Vows to Blow President Maduro ‘Out of Existence’The ALBA-TCP Political Council dismissed the US State Department report accusing Venezuela of being a drug-producing and transit country, noting that it contradicts reports from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and even the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), none of which places Venezuela in that category. They also expressed their full support for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, denouncing the accusations of drug trafficking against him as “unfounded and without legal basis.”The bloc demanded the immediate cessation of unilateral coercive measures against Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, and the removal of Cuba from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism.ALBA-TCP condemned the genocide perpetrated by “Israel” in the Gaza Strip, demanding an immediate end to the Zionist occupation of Gaza and reaffirming its support for the Palestinian people’s right to a sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital. It also condemned Israeli attacks against Syria, Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, and Qatar. The countries of the bloc called on CELAC to adopt a common position against any foreign intervention that threatens regional peace. Additionally, they announced the formation of a Special ALBA-TCP Mission to travel across Latin America and the Caribbean in defense of the Zone of Peace Proclamation. Finally, ALBA-TCP convened a Great Peace Conference in Latin America and the Caribbean, reviving Simón Bolívar’s vision and the Amphictyonic Congress of Panama, with the aim of strengthening the unity and self-determination of the peoples of the region.
