Maria Hinojosa, a Mexican-American journalist and the founder of Futuro Media, made a comparison between Anne Frank and Latino children, and ICE and nazis on MSNBC’s The Weekend. She stated that some Latino children are afraid of “abduction and death” in a similar way that Anne Frank was, per Fox. Hinojosa doubled down on her comments, saying, “I posted, actually, right after that first day on the ground in Chicago, I posted about the fact that there are little Anne Franks, right? Anne Frank, in Chicago, her name is Anita Franco, and she is terrified.” Hinojosa’s comments came during a discussion with co-host Eugene Daniels, who asked about the “psychological toll” of the Trump administration’s policies on Latino and Black communities. Anne Frank, a Jewish teenager who was killed during the Holocaust, is a well-known victim of the Nazi regime, and her diary is required reading in many American schools. Hinojosa, a proud Mexican immigrant from Mexico City who grew up on the South Side of Chicago, claimed that the “Black and Latino unity” in the city “will only grow thanks to Donald Trump and his Republican Party”. She went on to say that Chicago is a “city of neighborhoods,” and “we do not like outsiders coming to tell us how to run our city”. She also added that there is a pervasive “trauma” within the Latino community, comparing it to that of Anne Frank’s. Journalist compares ICE to Nazis The Trump administration has been working hard to enforce the deportation of illegal immigrants, especially those who have committed crimes. This has angered many on the left who believe it is too harsh. This is not the first time that ICE agents have been compared to Nazis. What she says has some truth to it, as the Trump administration has repeatedly angered many left-wing groups with its immigration policies. ICE has harmed pregnant citizens, and arrested veterans and denied them rights merely because of their race. It’s hard not to see ICE as a group that only cares about race. Hinojosa’s post on X and her comments on MSNBC have brought this conversation back to the forefront. She even included a quote from the Anne Frank exhibit in New York City. She concluded her segment by saying that “people who have privilege with citizenship… will defend the city of Chicago against this assault”. This whole back-and-forth between left-wing groups and the Trump administration has been going on for a while and will likely continue.
