The probe revealed that the accused were allegedly collecting Rs 20 lakh cash in exchange for arranging sex with minor girls.The police arrested Shobha, a Bengaluru resident, and her accomplice Tulsi Kumar after a decoy operation in Mysuru in collaboration with the NGO Odanadi Seva Samsthe. According to police sources, there is a superstition that sexual intercourse with virgin girls can cure various mental illnesses, creating a market for the sex racket.The breakthrough came when Odanadi received intelligence that Shobha was actively seeking clients with these superstitious beliefs. The NGO’s staff discovered that a 12-13-year-old girl had been displayed to potential customers through WhatsApp videos, prompting immediate action. Odanadi alerted senior police officials.An NGO staff member posed as an interested customer to gain Shobha’s trust and requested that she bring the minor to Mysuru. She readily agreed, promising to arrive by 2 pm Saturday. Odanadi founders K V Stanley and M L Parashurama teamed up with the Vijayanagar police to set an elaborate trap near the Government Girls’ Children’s Home in Vijayanagar.Shobha arrived with the girl and a male companion who maintained distance while observing carefully. Initially, she claimed the girl was her daughter, then her niece, and later stated that she was an adopted daughter. Eventually, Shobha admitted her involvement in the sex racket. The man accompanying her identified himself as her husband, Tulsi Kumar.The police immediately took the girl, a Class 6 student, into protective custody and later placed her in a children’s home. They arrested Shobha and Tulsi Kumar, and a court ordered the accused to be sent to judicial custody.
