Listed a couch as free pickup last month because I was moving and needed it gone. Good condition, just a regular three cushion couch, nothing wrong with it, genuinely free, photos included, first to confirm pickup gets it. Within twenty minutes I had eleven messages. The first person confirmed Saturday morning pickup. Great, done, sorted. The second asked if I could hold it until Sunday. I said sorry, first come first served. The third asked if I could help them load it and then hold it two weeks while they found someone to help since I couldn't do heavy lifting. I said two weeks was too long with my move coming up.\ Then the fourth message arrived. They asked if I would take $20 less than the listing price. The couch was free. I re-read my listing to confirm I hadnt made a typo. I had not made a typo. I replied asking what they meant since the item was listed at no cost. They explained they wanted me to pay them $20 to come collect it because gas was expensive and they'd be doing me a favor by taking it off my hands. I genuinly sat there for a second trying to parse this as something other than what it was. I couldn't. I told them the item was already spoken for. The original person came Saturday, was perfectly pleasant, the couch fit in their truck without any issue. I threw in a lamp as well. They seemed happy. I was happy. The fourth person was not part of this happiness and I think that was the right outcome. submitted by /u/Signal_14Atlas [link] [comments]
