Hon. Henry Musasizi, the Minister of State for Finance Planning and Economic Devt, has revealed that the government is proposing a 6% withholding tax on public entertainers. This is a move aimed at strengthening tax compliance within Uganda’s growing entertainment industry. While addressing the press, Musasizi explained that the proposed tax would be applied to musicians and other performers at the time they hold concerts and shows. We propose to introduce a withholding tax of 6% on public entertainers. When you are doing your concerts or shows, especially musicians, we want to take 6% of that income because you are earning. The same applies to comedians and other performers. The deducted amount would then be remitted directly to the tax authorities, ensuring that revenue generated from live performances is formally recorded and taxed.
