NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 4 – The Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority, William K. Ruto, has been hospitalised after he and his family were involved in a road accident in Taita Taveta on Friday, April 3.The authority confirmed in a statement on Saturday that the crash turned tragic after his daughter succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident.“We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer… was involved in a tragic road accident… Regrettably, his daughter did not survive,” the statement read.According to the notice issued by the Corporate Communication Division, Ruto and other family members who were in the vehicle are in stable condition and are receiving treatment under close medical supervision.The authority conveyed its condolences to the family, describing the loss as devastating, and appealed to the public and media to respect their privacy during the period of mourning.“We extend our thoughts and deepest condolences… during this time of immense grief,” the statement added.KPA said it is cooperating with relevant authorities as investigations into the cause of the accident get underway, promising to provide updates as more details emerge.The authority also acknowledged the swift response from local leadership, thanking Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir and Andrew Mwadime for their support following the incident.Their intervention, alongside emergency responders, is said to have been critical in assisting the victims at the scene and facilitating medical care.The incident adds to a growing list of road accidents reported in recent days, amid heightened travel ahead of the Easter holiday.Authorities have continued to urge motorists to exercise caution, as concerns mount over road safety across major highways.Further details surrounding the crash are expected as investigations continue.
