Hull City are in talks to sign former Manchester United defender Brandon Williams, talkSPORT understands. Williams, who was handed a suspended prison sentence in May, has been without a club since leaving Man United last summer.Hull are in talks to sign Williams who hasn’t played a game in well over a yearGettyTalks are not advanced as of yet, but Hull are eyeing a potential deal to bring in the 24-year-old full-back.The Tigers are also set to sign Oli McBurnie, with the striker already passing his medical ahead of a move.Williams could follow McBurnie through the door, with the ex-United academy prospect most recently playing for Ipswich Town on loan. That followed a previous loan spell at Norwich City, as he looked for game time during his five years in the Red Devils’ first team. His last professional appearance came on December 29, 2023 for Ipswich against QPR in the Championship.Williams has reportedly been on trial with multiple clubs as he tries to rebuild his football career, appearing off the bench for Hull in their friendlies against Sunderland and LaLiga side Getafe. And it seems that he impressed with the Tigers and they’re now looking at bringing him in permanently. Turkish giants Besiktas have also looked at making an approach, while other Championship teams are said to be eyeing him.Williams has been unattached since his contract at Man United expired and he ended his 16-year association with the club. That’s because, over the last couple of years, his career has taken a rough turn due to his involvement in a traffic accident. The ex-United starlet avoided jail after a traffic accidentGettyWhat happened to Williams? Williams collided with a Ford Fiesta on the A34 in August 2023.A court heard that he had been travelling at 99mph in a 70mph zone in his Audi A3 just seconds before the crash. The incident saw his car smash into the back of the Fiesta before hitting a central reservation. As a result of the collision, the driver and passengers in the other vehicle, which was written off, were injured.Williams was eventually sentenced to 14 months in prison after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance. His sentence was suspended for two years and he was banned from driving for three years.Williams spent time on loan at Norwich and Ipswich before the incidentGettyEarlier this year, Williams opened up on his recent struggles off the pitch on The Ben Foster Podcast. “My friends were worried about me, Angel Gomes, Jimmy [James] Garner, and D’Mani Mellor,” he said. “Because I wasn’t training, I was staying in my apartment, I wasn’t moving, wasn’t coming out.”He added: “At that point I did [fall out of love with football], at that point it was just getting too much for me. “It was problems with friends, friends going behind my back – stabbing me in my back. I was ignoring my family, I wasn’t really speaking to them.“They were really worried about me, my friends were as well to be fair. They could see it. It wasn’t right.”
