Two men were washed away in streams in as many incidents following heavy rain in Belagavi and Vijayapura districts on Wednesday.Gram panchayat waterman Suresh Gundannavar was washed away in Tarihal village in Belagavi district. He was riding a bike on a narrow bridge on a stream. The bike was also washed away by the stream waters.In Kalkavatagi village in Vijayapura district, a young man who was trying to cross a bridge was washed away.Srishail Gidnavar was navigating his vehicle over a submerged bridge when he was washed away.The police have launched a search for the missing men with help from local fishermen and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force and Fire and Emergency Services.Heavy rain on Tuesday night led to some bridge-cum-barrages being submerged in several places in Vijayapura district.Published - August 06, 2025 06:25 pm IST
