Gary Lineker will reportedly host a new game show on ITV.The English football legend left his iconic stint as Match of the Day host on the BBC in May after 26 seasons.Lineker is returning to TV screens, but with BBC rivals ITVGettyLineker made a tearful departure from the long-running highlights programme, as well as the broadcaster’s football coverage.He continued to host The Rest is Football podcast with his usual co-stars Micah Richards and Alan Shearer during the Club World Cup this summer.And now as reported by The Sun, Lineker is set to front a new show that will broadcast on Saturday nights called The Box.The programme, which is popular in Norway, will see 12 celebrities complete a series of challenges whilst being in boxes.It is said that The Box is a crossover between ITV’s mega-hit show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and SAS: Who Dares Wins.talkSPORT’s Troy Deeney and Adebayo Akinfenwa star in the latest series of the latter programme’s celebrity edition on Channel 4.“The Box is massive in Norway, and the rights were quickly sold to Denmark and now the UK,” a source told The Sun.“ITV are really excited about it – and believe they have finally found a worthy successor to Saturday Night Takeaway.“They have long been sniffing around Gary and just needed to find the right format for him.“They’re confident they’ve found that now, and the BBC’s loss is their gain.”Lineker will take on the new challenge of hosting a game showGettyWhat Lineker said on his BBC exitLineker left the BBC after he apologised for sharing a post on social media that led to accusations of anti-semitism.He re-shared a pro-Gaza video, which was soon deleted, that likened supporters of Israel to rats.The image of rats has historically been used as part of anti-semitic propaganda, including in Nazi Germany during the 1930s.However, although it was reported he was stepping down from the BBC, Lineker has revealed that he was sacked.“The latter,” he replied when asked if he quit or was dismissed.“I missed it. I genuinely didn’t see it.
