Most U.S. distribution lines have outlived their 50-year life expectancy and utilities are investing in these improvements at record rates, with capital expenditures topping $178 billion in 2024 and projected to reach $220.7 billion by 2026. Transmission upgrades alone account for more than $34 billion of that spend. But these investments face headwinds in a volatile market.
