A widening conflict in the Middle East is threatening the biggest disruption to global gas markets since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Around 20% of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route now largely halted, according to ship-tracking data. At least eleven LNG tankers linked to Qatar have paused voyages to avoid the waterway.
