We’re just over nine months away from the release of Avengers: Doomsday (2026), but Marvel is still facing issues with its most anticipated film.Nearly seven years out from the release of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Marvel is committed to reheating its nachos – by which we mean, it’s determined to overcome superhero fatigue and establish itself back on top at the box office. Just like Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War (2018) before it, the project is set to unite a huge number of the franchise’s most iconic heroes to defeat the current saga’s primary antagonist, Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.).Credit: Marvel StudiosOf course, the big difference between the Multiverse Saga and the Infinity Saga is that the latter’s big bad, Thanos, was seeded throughout the franchise before he took center stage as the villain. In comparison, the only time audiences have even slightly seen Doctor Doom is in a mid-credits scene for The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), in which a cloaked Downey Jr. interacts with Franklin, the infant son of Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby).Much has been made of the Multiverse Saga’s lack of cohesion compared to the Infinity Saga. There’s no clear core Avengers team at present (unless you count the New Avengers, which Sam Wilson pointedly does not), and the Multiverse itself has surfaced sporadically, without a consistent narrative throughline. That’s one of the reasons some fans are wary of Avengers: Doomsday. The film reunites Marvel with Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo, but it also carries enormous expectations — and a misstep would have ramifications across the entire franchise.Credit: Marvel StudiosMarvel Star Confirms Plans to Re-Shoot ‘Avengers: Doomsday’Surprisingly little has leaked from the set of Avengers: Doomsday. Even so, a persistent belief within the Marvel fandom holds that the film was shot without a fully finalized script, with the Russo brothers shaping the project as production progressed. For that reason, many believe the film requires extensive reshoots before it hits theaters.A recent interview with Avengers: Doomsday star David Harbour seems to corroborate this theory. When asked about his upcoming plans by ExtraTV, Harbour revealed that he’s about to travel to London to once again suit up as Alexi Shostakov/Red Guardian, the adoptive father of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh).David Harbour reveals he's about to do more "Avengers: Doomsday" filming, talks new "genre-defying" series "DTF St. Louis." pic.twitter.com/srp3fAJKPm— ExtraTV (@extratv) February 25, 2026“I’ve been working a lot. Keeping busy,” Harbour said. “And this little Avengers movie that we got in London. They got a couple more days they want to do. I’m heading there soon [and] actually going to London for a couple of days. There’s a little more filming coming up for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.'”The Stranger Things star – who’s recently made headlines for a supposed rift with co-star Millie Bobby Brown – revealed that he’s excited to get back into character, praising two of his co-stars in particular.“The chemistry with Sebastian [Stan] and Wyatt [Russell] on set was fantastic, so I’m looking forward to getting back in there,” the actor said. “You know I can’t say anything. But it’s gonna be fun. The Russos are killing it, and the whole thing is shaping up to be massive.”Credit: Marvel StudiosIt was inevitable that Red Guardian would share significant screen time with Bucky Barnes and U.S. Agent, considering that all three are members of the same team. Thunderbolts* may have underperformed at the box office, but it was broadly well-received by critics and fans, with praise aimed at its character dynamics and darker tone. Its director, Jake Schreier, has since been tapped to lead the MCU’s reboot of X-Men.What Do We Know About ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?While we haven’t received a full-length trailer for Avengers: Doomsday yet, Marvel has released several teasers featuring key heroes. Most notably, one of these teasers revolved around Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), a character who seemingly exited the MCU in Endgame after he decided to stay in the past with his old love, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).December 18, 2026. #AvengersDoomsday pic.twitter.com/6eBYWSTEde— Marvel Studios (@MarvelStudios) December 23, 2025His return stirred up a lot of excitement, but also criticism. Some believe Doomsday‘s bloated cast list – which also includes relics from Fox’s Marvel universe, such as Magneto (Ian McKellan) and Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) – is proof that the studio is desperate to cash in on as much nostalgia as possible.Other returning heroes include Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Shuri/Black Panther (Letitia Wright), Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Shang Chi (Simu Liu), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), Remy LeBeau/Gambit (Channing Tatum), and Loki (Tom Hiddleston).Credit: Marvel StudiosKey characters not confirmed for the project include the likes of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton/Hawkeye, and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man. The latter will lead his own film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, this summer, and is thought to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars – the direct follow-up to Avengers: Doomsday – instead. Recent rumors suggest that this may be split into two parts, essentially making the story a trilogy.Recent leaks have hinted at potential scenes in the film.According to MyTimeToShineHello, as reported by Comic Book Movie, the film will open with a Multiversal confrontation involving Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. “Avengers: Doomsday is not only the most epic Avengers movie, but it might be the most epic movie OF ALL TIME,” they wrote. “The opening scene alone tops any previous Avengers movie, and the final battle is just INSANE.”Credit: Sony PicturesIt’s also been reported that Doom initially teams up with the Fantastic Four to confront reality-threatening Incursions, only for his true motivations to later emerge.“Victor asks the Fantastic Four for help with the Incursions. They travel together with Steve Rogers to the MCU in their ship to warn everyone, then join forces to head to the X-Men universe–the source of the next Incursion that will destroy their Earths,” MyTimeToShineHello writes. “They have a plan to fix everything.”Despite the confirmed reshoots, Avengers: Doomsday is expected to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.Are you optimistic about Avengers: Doomsday? The post Confirmed: Marvel Will Re-Film Controversial ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ appeared first on Inside the Magic.
