The Trump Justice Department files federal lawsuit against UCLA accusing the college of creating a hostile work environment for Jews and Israeli faculty, in violation of the Civil Rights Act.By World Israel News StaffThe Trump administration has filed a federal lawsuit against the University of California Los Angeles over alleged civil rights violations against Israeli and Jewish faculty members. On Tuesday, the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division filed the suit against UCLA, accusing the college of discrimination and of fostering a “hostile work environment” by failing to act against antisemitic harassment following the October 7, 2023, invasion of Israel. The suit also accused school administrators of negligently permitting hostile work conditions against two individuals who had charged UCLA with discrimination, and against other “aggrieved Jewish and Israeli employees.”The Department of Justice claims that after October 7, “antisemitic acts pervaded UCLA,” and cited the days-long antisemitic harassment of Jews and Israelis in front of the school’s Royce Hall in 2024, when “Jews were not permitted on portions of the main quad, Jewish professors were assaulted, and swastikas were graffitied on University buildings.”Jewish and Israeli faculty were physically threatened, the DOJ added, “had their classrooms disrupted, and had their workplaces papered with disturbing images.”“Jewish professors have been, and continue to be, subjected to ostracism and harassment by their colleagues and students, while their colleagues and supervisors not only have failed to report those acts as required but have even participated in them.”A number of Jewish and Israeli employees were forced to take leave from work, to work from home, or quit their positions in order to avoid campus antisemitism, the DOJ said.“Based on our investigation, UCLA administrators allegedly allowed virulent antisemitism to flourish on campus, harming students and staff alike,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi.“Today’s lawsuit underscores that this Department of Justice stands strong against hate and antisemitism in all its vile forms.”First Assistant United States Attorney Bill Essayli of the Central District of California said UCLA failed to meet equal opportunity standards “when it stood by as Jewish employees were subjected to harassment.”The university has said that since the antisemitic incidents in 2024, the school has taken steps to confront antisemitism, including changes to its civil rights office. The post Trump administration sues UCLA amid antisemitism accusations appeared first on World Israel News.
