One of the biggest upgrades the Galaxy S26 series brings over the Galaxy S25 series is faster processors. However, the chip you get depends on your region. In China, Japan, and North America, the Galaxy S26 series is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. In other markets, the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ use Samsung’s new Exynos 2600 chip. The Galaxy S26 Ultra uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy worldwide. So how do these new chips compare to the processors used in the Galaxy S25 series? In markets where the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ use the Exynos 2600, Samsung claims noticeable improvements over last year’s models. The Exynos 2600, which is the world’s first 2nm smartphone chip, delivers 7 percent faster CPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite used in the Galaxy S25 series. Its GPU is 29 percent more powerful, and its NPU is 40 percent faster. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 offers a 19 percent faster CPU, a 24 percent more powerful GPU, and a 39 percent faster NPU compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The jump in CPU performance is a particular highlight here, which is partly down to the much higher clock speeds the new Snapdragon chip can achieve. Samsung has also used a better vapor chamber cooling system in its newer phones compared to their predecessors. On the Galaxy S26 Ultra, cooling efficiency is better by 21%. Both new processors also feature upgraded image signal processors (ISPs). These improvements enable the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra to capture photos and videos with lower noise, improved color accuracy, more detailed textures, and a wider dynamic range, even though the camera hardware remains largely unchanged. The new chips also enhance video capabilities. The Galaxy S26 series supports Super Steady video recording with Horizon Lock, similar to stabilization features found in some action cameras, along with auto-framed 4K video recording for more dynamic shots.
