LESA officers were called out to a staggering 13,191 traffic collisions across Malta in 2025, new figures tabled in parliament reveal. The data, provided by Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri in reply to a parliamentary question by PN MP Ivan Bartolo, paints a clear picture of just how busy Malta’s roads remain.Fresh statistics from the National Statistics Office suggest things may be heading in the right direction, at least slightly. In the final three months of 2025, traffic accidents dropped by nearly 7% compared to the same period in 2024.Road casualties also saw a noticeable dip, falling by 10.8% to 332 injuries during that period. When it comes to hotspots, the Northern Harbour district once again topped the list. The area recorded 1,200 accidents, making up a hefty 32.5% of all reported collisions. While the numbers show Malta’s road network is still under serious strain, the latest trends hint at a modest but welcome improvement in both accidents and injuries. What do you make of these statistics?•
