With consignment stores, if you have desirable items (clothing, shoes and accessories or furniture, are the most common types), you can contract with the store to sell that item on your behalf, and they will pay you “X” when it sells within a certain timeframe. I used to frequent a store called Fifi’s Consignment that offered very good deals on clothing and accessories that were gently used. The prices were higher than a thrift store but certainly lower than new or newish.
