Silvio Schembri Meets Team Behind Malta’s Growing 3D Printing Hub

Economy Minister Silvio Schembri visited Invent 3D’s headquarters in Qormi, meeting the team behind one of Malta’s leading companies in the 3D printing sector.Founded in 2018 by David and Alexandra Sciberras as a garage startup, Invent 3D has since grown into a 2,000-square-metre factory housing more than 200 3D printers and employing 14 full time staff.The company designs and develops products using advanced 3D printing technology. During the visit, the team showcased a range of projects including trophies and merchandise, statues and exhibition pieces, as well as work in reverse engineering and process optimisation.Through recent franchising expansion, Invent 3D is positioning itself as an international hub for 3D printing and innovation.The company also houses two additional startups operating within the 3D printing space.ELM Fabrication, co founded with Ing. Nicholas Borg Calleja, focuses on robotics and automation. The company has developed what is described as Malta’s largest 3D printer, measuring 2 metres by 2 metres by 6 metres, designed to print large scale projects quickly using recycled materials.Meanwhile, Malti3D, formed with Ing. Nicholas Borg Calleja and Prof Arif Rochmann, has developed a locally designed and patented machine capable of printing materials described as being as strong as aluminium and as flexible as silicone.During his visit, Minister Schembri met the team behind the operations and discussed plans for further internationalisation across all three companies.•
