Police seize 30 kg of ganja at Katpadi, Walajah; four arrested

The Government Railway Police (GRP) at Katpadi in Vellore and the Kaveripakkam police in Ranipet have seized a total consignment of 30 kg of ganja during separate surprise checks on Friday (February 27, 2026).   As part of security measures, a team of GRP police personnel was conducting surprise checks in halted trains at Katpadi railway station.The Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Express was one of the trains halted at the railway station. The team searched coaches of the express train when they found an abandoned tourist bag in the general compartment of the train. When the police checked the bag, they found bundles of ganja that weighing 9 kg.Following the seizure, a case was registered. The police analysed the CCTV footage in the railway station to nab the suspects. In a separate incident, a police team led by Kaveripakkam Inspector Shanmugam conducted a vehicle check at Sumaithangi village on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway NH48 when they stopped an SUV, which had four occupants in it. The police checked the vehicle and found 21 kg of ganja in it. They arrested M. Manikandan (34), S. Bhavani (21), M. Priya (27), and S. Srinivasan (23). A case was registered. Arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore.
