normalnormalnormalIn a strong assertion of fiscal accountability and administrative transparency, Haryana Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday informed the Assembly that the state government has recovered the Rs. 556 crore linked to the IDFC First Bank case, including nearly Rs. 22 crore in interest, within 24 hours.Speaking during the ongoing budget session of the State Vidhan Sabha, the Chief Minister said the full amount pertaining to various Haryana government departments, boards and corporations has been credited back by IDFC First Bank into the respective departmental accounts.  He further shared that the swift recovery was made possible through coordinated efforts between the state government and senior bank officials.Calling it a matter of public trust, Nayab Singh Saini underscored that the funds represent the hard-earned money of 2.8 crore citizens of Haryana and would be utilised strictly for their welfare. Every single rupee belonging to the people will be safeguarded and spent only for their benefit, he asserted.The Chief Minister said a high-level committee, headed by the Finance Secretary, has been constituted to examine the matter in detail and fix accountability of the employees and officers concerned. The Committee will determine responsibility and recommend further action, if required.Emphasising a decisive shift in administrative culture, the Chief Minister said that governance in Haryana has changed fundamentally. The era of suppressing corruption files is over, he said, adding that the present dispensation functions on the principle of complete transparency and financial discipline.Referring to the broader governance framework, he said that under the leadership of Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi, the double-engine government, is committed to maintaining strict oversight of public expenditure. He reiterated that the government is working with a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and is determined to ensure that no public funds are misused.The Chief Minister informed the House that the bank has indicated that the irregularities were primarily linked to its Chandigarh branch and involved alleged collusion at the middle and lower levels. The Chief Minister made it clear that the state government, in coordination with the bank, will ensure that stringent action is taken against all those found responsible.No one involved in this case, whether a government official or a bank employee, will be spared, said the Chief Minister, reiterating that accountability would be fixed without exception. He said that the government has not discontinued pensions; rather, it has strengthened social security measures for the elderly.Highlighting the Centre’s commitment towards senior citizens, he referred to Prime Minister, Sh.  Narendra Modi’s assurance of expanded healthcare protection for citizens above 70 years of age. Under this provision, eligible elderly beneficiaries are entitled to medical coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakhs, ensuring that families are not burdened by the cost of serious illnesses.Taking a swipe at the Opposition, the Chief Minister alleged that rumours regarding pension discontinuation were being deliberately circulated to create confusion among elderly citizens. Spreading such misinformation, he said, is irresponsible and deeply unfortunate, particularly when it concerns the most pivotal sections of society.He underlined that the present government has streamlined pension delivery through a transparent and technology-driven mechanism. Beneficiaries now receive real-time SMS alerts once their pension is credited directly into their bank accounts, enabling hassle-free withdrawals without the need for repeated visits to government offices.Drawing a contrast with the previous Congress regime, the Chief Minister said that senior citizens earlier had to endure long delays, sometimes waiting months for their pension payments. Many were forced to make repeated trips to government offices, often in extreme weather conditions, with little administrative responsiveness.Clarifying the issue of temporary payment holds, he explained that in cases where discrepancies or complaints arise, verification is conducted as part of due process.
