Despite being in excruciating pain, Giancarlo Stanton is desperate to win a World Series with the New York Yankees.The 36-year-old enters his third-season fighting through pain and discomfort from Epicondylitis, more commonly known as tennis elbow.Stanton has Tennis elbow in both his armsGettyThe issue is present in both of his arms, and he has yet to make an appearance in Spring Training for the Yankees this year.Despite this, he is not an excuse maker, however much the pain affects him both on the field and off the field.“I can’t open a bottle,” Stanton told Randy Miller from the New Jersey news outlet.“I can’t open a bag of chips… a bag of anything, that’s the way it is.”Stanton has appeared in just over half of the Yankees regular season games since joining the team in 2019 — the year after he was named NL MVP with the Miami Marlins.He missed the first 70 contests last season due to rehab, and despite praise from manager Aaron Boone over his toughness, he doesn’t think fans feel the same way.“The [public] outlook would be that I wouldn’t be [mentally tough] because I have missed games,” he added.Surgery for this type of procedure should result in a couple months of recovery, but Stanton doesn’t regret not going under the knife.“You get the surgery and you can go back to being in the general population in a few months, but my job is to put some of the most force into a batted ball,” he explained.“That’s not going to be fixed in surgery, and I don’t care what any doctor says because they don’t know what’s going on.Stanton revealed he struggles to complete every day tasks due to the painGettyDespite the struggles, Stanton slugged 24 home runs for the Yankees in 2025Getty“What’s written (about my elbows) is what me and the Yankees give you.”Stanton remains one of baseball’s premier sluggers despite tennis elbowBy the season’s end, Stanton owned a .273 average, 24 home runs and 66 RBI’s in just 281 plate appearances.
