Career opportunity for graduates to work with the European Union

Wait 5 sec.

Ever since Malta joined the European Union, Maltese citizens have acquired the right to live and work in any Member State, under the same conditions as the citizens of that country. Over the years, many Maltese have taken this opportunity and built careers abroad. Others have taken the opportunity to work at the very heart of the European Union, with one of its institutions, bodies or agencies. But what does it actually mean to work with the European Union?A Job That Makes A DifferenceThe European Union offers various employment opportunities within its institutions and agencies, including the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Council of the European Union, which are based primarily in Brussels, but also in other European cities. Working in this environment means being part of teams made up of people from all over Europe, and contributing directly to policies and programmes that affect the lives of around 450 million European citizens.A Strong Professional EnvironmentAlthough work in the European Union is demanding, the institutions place great importance on work–life balance. At the same time, they offer opportunities for personal and professional development, including language learning and career progression, both within the same institution and between different institutions and agencies. Moreover, a career with the European Union offers attractive financial conditions. Salaries are competitive and accompanied by an internal European Union tax system, which is generally lower than national taxes. Depending on the place of work and personal circumstances, additional allowances may also apply. European Union employees benefit from a stable and secure pension scheme, as well as comprehensive health insurance. These benefits make a career in the European Union not only professionally rewarding, but also one that offers long term security and stability.
