Call Screening is one of the standout AI additions Samsung introduced alongside the Galaxy S26 series and One UI 8.5 at Unpacked 2026. It expands the existing Call Assist toolkit under Galaxy AI and helps Galaxy S26 users protect themselves against spam and scam callers.Until now, One UI’s Call Assist suite revolved primarily around Live Translate. With the launch of the Galaxy S26, Samsung added a more proactive layer. Call Screening lets users intercept suspicious calls before they ever have to say hello, helping filter out spam, scams, and unknown numbers with minimal effort. How does Call Screening work on the Galaxy S26 with One UI 8.5?Galaxy S26 users can enable Call Screening by going to Settings > Galaxy AI > Call Assist. Once activated, users can choose how aggressively the feature behaves. Calls can be screened automatically based on suspected spam or scam patterns, or you can limit screening to unknown callers only.In day-to-day use, the process is straightforward. If you receive a call from a private or unfamiliar number, you can tap the Call Assist button on the incoming call screen and select Call Screening. Your Galaxy S26 will answer on your behalf using a digital voice assistant. The assistant asks the caller to state their name and reason for calling, and the full exchange is transcribed in real time on your screen. You can watch the conversation unfold without speaking directly to the caller. At any point, you can take over by answering the call yourself. Alternatively, you can type a response that the assistant will read aloud using text to speech. This creates a buffer between you and the caller while keeping you fully informed and in control. In practical terms, your phone can hold a short conversation with an unknown caller while you silently monitor every word. If it turns out to be legitimate, you step in. If not, you decline and move on. Call Screening ships out of the box on the Galaxy S26 lineup and is expected to roll out to additional devices once the One UI 8.5 update expands to older models. There are limitations. Availability may vary by region, and support currently covers 13 languages: English, Korean, Japanese, Polish, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai, Vietnamese, Hindi, and Chinese.
