Trophies are all that’s on the mind of Ivan Toney at the moment. However, the English striker can change his mind ‘very quick’, which is why he’s refused to rule out a return to the Premier League.Toney has been in sensational form for Al Ahli this seasonGettyToney has already tasted silverware twice following his £40million move to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli from Brentford in August 2024.The 29-year-old helped Al Ahli claim the 2025 Saudi Super Cup as well as the 2024/25 Asian Champions League Elite, which is considered the most prestigious club competition in Asian football. However, Toney is not satisfied with his trophy haul, claiming he has ‘unfinished business’ in Saudi Arabia. Why Toney won’t shut door on Premier League return just yetBut whenever he decides his time in the Gulf nation is up, don’t be surprised to see Toney make a Premier League return.“I want to win titles,” Toney said.“I want to leave a big legacy for myself, my children and my family.“I’m settled at the moment. With me, I can change my mind very quick so I take it one step at a time.“Who knows what could happen. I would be open to it (a Premier League return).“But like I said, right now I’ve got unfinished business and I want to win some trophies here first before I think of anything else.“Never say never, you never know what football brings and what’s around the corner.”Toney scored 36 goals in 85 Premier League appearancesGettyToney may not need to wait much longer for his next trophy as Al Ahli sit second in the Saudi Pro League on 56 points, just two behind league leaders Al Nassr. The ex-Brentford star also leads the Saudi Pro League’s Golden Boot race with 23 goals, two more than Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. How close was Toney to a Premier League return in January? In an alternate universe, Toney would not be in the Golden Boot conversation having been linked with a surprise return to the Premier League in January. The likes of West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur, managed at the time by Thomas Frank, Toney’s manager at Brentford, were credited with an interest. However, a move to either club ultimately failed to materialise as Toney declared he was happy at Al Ahli. When asked by Bent whether there was any truth to the rumours, Toney replied: “I never watch that stuff, hence why I have an agent. I let my agent take care of that stuff.“When I did focus on that stuff, my head wasn’t in the right space and I dipped in form.“Yeah, there were some clubs interested in me. But I said I was happy here, I’m focused here and I’ve got unfinished business to do here.“My main focus was on playing football, playing well, enjoying it and getting goals for my team.”Toney: ‘No conversation’ over England recallMuch of January’s speculation was fuelled by Toney’s desire to make England’s World Cup squad. Since his move to Saudi Arabia in 2024, the striker has found himself largely frozen out of the Three Lions set-up.He has played just once under Thomas Tuchel thus far, coming on in the latter stages of a 3-1 friendly loss to Senegal in May 2025, with the German opting for strikers who play in the top European leagues.Toney had been linked with a Premier League return to boost his World Cup hopesGettyAsked if he had aspirations to get back into the England squad for the World Cup, he said: “Of course, there’s going to be eyes on that. “But I can only control what I can control, which is trying to score goals and do well for my team here. “I’m sure goals will get me recognised and help me push close to being in the frame. But there’s a lot of other great strikers and a lot of competition. “I’m sure the coach will choose the best team possible to give the country the best chance of winning something at the World Cup.”Despite holding out hope for a trip to the USA, Canada and Mexico in the summer, Toney revealed he has had no contact with Tuchel over this.Asked if the two had spoken, he replied: “No, there’s been no conversation.“But I don’t expect there to be, because he’s got so many other players he has to be watching. “I’m sure he’s keeping one eye on me and seeing what I’m doing. I just have to be focused on myself, keep my head down and keep scoring goals. “I’m sure it will come his way and it will give myself an opportunity.“Like I said before, I know what I can bring to a team and goals is part of my game. Hopefully that’s enough.”Does Toney still watch the Premier League?Even though a return to the Premier League wasn’t to be for Toney in January, he still keeps tabs on how every team is performing, especially Brentford.“I still watch the Premier League, I still watch Brentford, the majority of games when I can, when I’m not travelling,” Toney said. The Bees are on course for their best ever Premier League finishGetty“When I’ve got time to myself, I’ll sit and watch the football. There’s some good teams in the Premier League at the moment.“Hopefully, maybe one day I’ll return to it.”Under Keith Andrews, who Toney briefly crossed paths with at Brentford before he moved to Al Ahli, the Bees are flying high and sit seventh in the English top flight this term.Brentford’s surge up the table is all the more impressive given they lost Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, who contributed a combined 39 league goals last term, in the summer to Manchester United and Newcastle respectively.Igor Thiago has since taken up the mantle as Brentford’s leading marksman and is second in the Premier League’s Golden Boot race with 17 goals to his name. The Brazilian needs just four more goals to surpass Toney’s best ever Premier League haul, which stands at 20.Catch part two of our exclusive interview with Toney on Thursday’s Drive show, live from 4pm on talkSPORT!
