The Office of the Commissioner for Children has voiced serious concern over plans for a cannabis-related shop to open close to a school, warning about the impact such outlets could have on minors.In a statement issued on Thursday, the office said it is deeply concerned about establishments linked to cannabis products operating near schools and areas frequently used by children and young people.It warned that the visibility of these outlets in children’s immediate environment raises “serious concerns” about inappropriate influences.“Children have a right to grow and learn in spaces that are safe, supportive, and free from commercial activities that may undermine their wellbeing,” the statement said.The office called for urgent regulatory measures to prevent businesses selling or promoting cannabis-related products from operating next to schools or in areas primarily used by minors.It stressed that protecting children must remain a national priority and urged authorities to ensure school zones remain free from commercial activity that could negatively impact children’s development.The comments come amid growing debate over a planned CBD shop near a school in Gżira, which has already sparked concern from educators and parents.What do you make of this?•
