Katie Taylor will call time on her illustrious career after one last dance. The future first ballot Hall of Famer hasn’t set foot in the ring since beating Amanda Serrano last July in New York to bring a close to their iconic rivalry.Taylor hasn’t boxed since beating Serrano for a third time last JulyGETTYIn victory, Taylor defended her undisputed super lightweight crown for a second consecutive time.However, she has since been named “champion in recess” by the WBC after informing the major sanctioning body that she intends to take a break from the sport.During this hiatus, Taylor was able to reflect on her future, and as she nears her 40th birthday, ‘The Bray Bomber’ has decided to hang up her gloves following a farewell fight in Dublin this summer.Taylor is hopeful that her swansong can take place at Croke Park.Failing that, the Aviva Stadium and the 3Arena are being eyed as alternative venues.Taylor told RTÉ Sport: “We’re still trying to figure the details out, but I do have one more fight this year.“It’s kind of like my retirement fight. It has been an amazing journey, the whole lot of it, over these last 20 years.“I have had the highs and lows. It has been an incredible, remarkable career, and I always wanted to end it here in Ireland.“That’s what we’re hoping and preparing for, to have one last fight. It is going to be an amazing celebration.“I just want to fight in Dublin to end my career. I’m not sure if it is going to happen or not.“Either way, I’ll be ending my career here, and I’m very, very excited about that.”Who could Katie Taylor face in her farewell fight?The date and opponent are yet to be confirmed, although Taylor anticipates it will happen “sometime in July or August”.A crossover boxing bout with Ronda Rousey had been explored last year, but the former UFC bantamweight champion pivoted to an MMA bout against Gina Carano on May 16.Holly Holm, who famously dethroned Rousey in 2015, has also thrown her hat in the ring to face Taylor next.
