Josh Sargent saga “played out the way nobody wanted it to” – Kenny McLean

Wait 5 sec.

Norwich City captain Kenny McLean gave his say on the Josh Sargent transfer saga. Sargent, who is reportedly finalizing a permanent move to MLS’ Eastern Conference club Toronto FC, will be leaving Norwich City after five years at the club. The American forward has been out of action since January after reportedly requesting a move to North America, which led to manager Philippe Clement demoting him to training with the club’s Under-21’s.McLean has been Sargent’s teammate since his arrival from Werder Bremen in 2021, watching the Missouri native become more of the more prolific goalscorers in the EFL Championship. However, Sargent’s departure will leave a major opening in the Canaries’ attacking corps, putting the club in a worrying spot with them sitting only four points clear of the relegation zone. While McLean understands why Norwich City fans are frustrating with Sargent leaving at this stage of the season, he admitting the situation never should have gotten to where it is. “I get the fans’ frustration completely, a couple of months ago we were talking about having the best player in the Championship,” McLean said in an interview with BBC Radio Norfolk.“Then we lost him and it’s not nice for anybody,” he added. “I’ve got so much love for Josh’s family, so I’m not going to say anything bad towards him. I’m sure the fans would enjoy it if I did but it’s a situation that’s played out the way nobody wanted it to.”Sargent will look to hit the ground running quickly in MLS as Toronto FC seeks to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2021. Norwich City’s busy second half schedule continues Wednesday against Sheffield Wednesday before the Canaries travel to Leicester City on Saturday.
