Since Inside the Magic’s last update on February 17, Walt Disney World Resort has continued removing Star Wars elements from Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here’s the latest update on the ongoing construction.Animation Courtyard OverhaulIt all started in July 2025, when Walt Disney World Resort announced the permanent closure of Animation Courtyard, including Star Wars Launch Bay, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Lucasfilm-inspired walkthrough exhibit, which includes several character meet-and-greets, will be transformed into The Magic of Disney Animation, which was an original part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios when it originally opened as Disney-MGM Studios.Credit: DisneyAnimation Courtyard will become the Walt Disney Studios Lot, inspired by the real animation studio in Burbank, California. The Magic of Disney Animation building (formerly Star Wars Launch Bay) will feature six Disney character meet-and-greet locations, animation classes with an advanced Olaf audio-animatronic, and a large blue Sorcerer Mickey hat inspired by the park icon, which was removed from Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the mid-2010s.A new Disney Junior-themed entertainment offering, “Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!,” will replace “Disney Junior Play and Dance!” The land’s other show, “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure,” has continued operating throughout the construction and will remain when the Walt Disney Studios Lot officially debuts later this year.Credit: DisneyAnimation Courtyard, including Star Wars Launch Bay and “Disney Junior Place and Dance!,” permanently closed in September 2025. This included the building’s sign and the gray metal overhang that welcomed guests inside, which the Sorcerer Mickey hat will eventually replace. At that time, much of the building was still sporting its outer-space-themed gray color scheme. Now, even more of the building facade has been removed, making it look like a blank slate towering above the construction walls. On Wednesday, WDWNT reported that the wait-time signs for meet-and-greets and other experiences in the former Star Wars Launch Bay had been removed, along with different pieces of the facade. In a photo the outlet shared on Facebook, construction equipment is visible beyond “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.”The entire Animation Courtyard, except for The Little Mermaid (1989) show, is currently closed. The area will reopen as the Walt Disney Studios Lot sometime this summer.Has the Star Wars Launch Bay and Animation Courtyard construction impacted your visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios?
