Why is the Galaxy S26 Ultra display Samsung’s best ever?

Although every smartphone component contributes to the overall user experience, the display is arguably one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. And with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung has polished that piece close to perfection. At a superficial level, the Galaxy S26 Ultra's screen doesn't look drastically different from its predecessor's. It's still a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 1-120Hz refresh rate, 2600 nits of peak brightness, and the same 3120 x 1440 resolution. But you'd be wrong to assume this is a recycled screen. In reality, it's fundamentally different and undeniably better. Here are the display features, both new and returning, that make the Galaxy S26 Ultra's screen the best in the series yet.NEW: What is Privacy Display? If you thought mobile innovation was dead, this brand-new Samsung feature might convince you otherwise. Privacy Display debuts with the Galaxy S26 Ultra and, frankly, it almost looks like technomagic.Privacy Display allows the Galaxy S26 Ultra to make the entire screen, or just parts of it, impossible to read at an angle. Similar to a polarized screen protector, it prevents strangers from seeing what's on your display as long as they don't look at it straight ahead. Here's the magic part: this isn't simply a polarizer layer on top of the screen. Samsung built Privacy Display directly into the Galaxy S26 Ultra panel. It's not software trickery or a sheet of plastic. It works at the pixel level and can be enabled or disabled, fully or partially, through a quick toggle. Partial Screen Privacy limits visibility for notification pop-ups, and Maximum Privacy Protection obscures side views, too. It all works, even when switching between portrait and landscape orientations.Better yet, according to Samsung, Privacy Display doesn't affect brightness levels, viewing angles, or image quality whatsoever when turned off. When the feature is inactive, the AMOLED screen is as bright and crisp as ever. And even when the feature is active, Samsung says it keeps content clear, bright, and comfortable to read for the user.NEW: Finally, a 10-bit display. Why is this important?Besides debuting the magic-like Privacy Display technology, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is also the first in the series to feature a true 10-bit display. Previous models used 8-bit panels. What's the difference? A 10-bit display can render far more color information than an 8-bit panel. In practice, this means smoother gradients and less visible color banding. In other words, visuals should look richer and more natural.Typically, 10-bit monitors are used by professionals who need high-fidelity color rendering. The Galaxy S26 Ultra isn't necessarily a pro-grade device in that same sense, but the upgrade still improves image quality whether you notice it immediately or gradually over time.Returning: Corning Gorilla Armor 2Another key element that helps make the Galaxy S26 Ultra's display the best among Ultra models is Corning Gorilla Armor 2. This isn't entirely new, but it's an important returning feature. The original Gorilla Armor first debuted with the Galaxy S24 Ultra in 2024, and Samsung upgraded the S25 Ultra with Armor 2 the following year. For 2026, Samsung is keeping the same Armor 2 level of protection because it's still the best and most recent release from Corning.Although not entirely new, using Gorilla Armor 2 is great. The tech offers two key benefits.First, there's the anti-reflective coating, which makes the screen much easier to see and read in bright environments, including direct sunlight.Second, it improves scratch resistance. On the Mohs scale, the Galaxy S26 Ultra's screen should be slightly higher than standard Gorilla Glass solutions. Although it is worth noting that the original Gorilla Armor on the S24 Ultra was even more scratch resistant. This is only the beginningWithout a doubt, the Galaxy S26 Ultra's screen is the best Samsung has used on a Galaxy S Ultra phone. But the features above still don't paint the full picture.A range of other clever elements help cement the Galaxy S26 Ultra's position as an elite phone. The Ultra is still uniquely positioned to support the S Pen, for example. And like other premium Samsung phones, the Galaxy S26 Ultra features lock screen wallpapers and the Now Bar on the Always On Display. The post Why is the Galaxy S26 Ultra display Samsung’s best ever? appeared first on SamMobile.
