Weeks after wrapping their Deadline World Tour, Blackpink dropped their highly anticipated mini album Deadline—and their action-packed, mesmerizing video for “GO.”Lyrically, the song features the swagger that Lisa, Jisoo, Jennie, and Rosé are known for in their Blackpink discography. The song is mostly a confidence anthem, with Lisa teasing “here to the rescue, I’m number one,” in the first verse and telling the world that the K-pop quartet is ready to dominate music again with her “Never gonna settle for second, I need a gold medal” lyric in the second verse.But in the bridge, the girls turn the focus to their fans, delivering a pep talk to encourage anyone feeling down to keep going. “When your heart is broken, baby / Darkness on the edge of town / (BLACKPINK’ll make ya) / Try to keep it open, baby,” Jennie starts the verse.Ahead of the album release, Rosé spoke to Alex Cooper on Call Her Daddy about the Blackpink version of herself being a pop star persona. Rosé is a stage name—one her entertainment company chose for her when she debuted with Blackpink. The singer actually goes by Rosie in her personal life.“My whole career started as Blackpink, and I feel like it was so much fun creating this character onstage because I’m just from Australia in my bedroom,” she said.
