We would go down to Worcester races. “The bonding and the camaraderie of a race day is really good for team spirit. I learned that from West Brom. It got me into horses and I’ve actually owned a few but it’s a great day. “At United, we had a few days down at the races. In fact, when we won the title, that was the next day after winning the title. We all went to Chester races. We had a great day.”There was one talkSPORT presenter and former United player he’d always see at Cheltenham.“Paul Ince was right into it at Manchester United but none of the other lads were really that interested in horses,” he added.“Cheltenham is great and I go more or less every year and it’s enjoyable because I see some older players and I go with friends and it’s always a great day out. The one old player who I’m guaranteed to see is Alan Brazil!”Alan Brazil is often seen at Cheltenham Festival, including live on talkSPORT!It’s often said that Cheltenham Festival is ‘like no other’ and Robson firmly believes this too, despite having been to the biggest racing festivals in the world.Robson explained: “I’ve been to the Melbourne Cup and fortunately I’ve been to the Breeders’ Cup in Chicago so I’ve been a few places around the world to follow the racing.“They don’t take the jumps as seriously as we do in this country and in Ireland. It’s totally different and it’s a bit different because half the crowd are Irish, and that makes it a great atmosphere at Cheltenham. “Everybody takes the jumps really seriously whereas in the USA, Dubai and Australia it’s all about the flat season.”Banned from HaydockRobson loved to go to Haydock for the races on Fridays as it was just a 20 minute trip from the training ground. But Sir Alex had other ideas and banned him from going to the racecourse. Now Ferguson loves a trip to the races as a spectator and prominent ownerGettyRobson tried to reason with Sir Alex, explaining: “I used to say to him, ‘I’ve got a mate in the box, I drink orange juice all day, and I leave before the last race so I’m back home in good time!’.“I still don’t think he ever believed me.” Robson confirmed Fergie does believe him now though, as the pair enjoy going racing together on occasion. The 69-year-old is also often off to see racing at the Magic Millions based in Australia, where his daughter trains racehorses.Claim over £500 in Cheltenham Festival free bet offers for this year’s meeting and see the best horse racing betting sitesMost read in Horse RacingThursday horse racing tips: Best bets at Wetherby and Ludlow from Tom LunnNicky Henderson delivers 'sad' Cheltenham Festival Constitution Hill decisionConstitution Hill huge drifter in exchange to run at Cheltenham FestivalRedknapp 'dreaming' of Gold Cup win and will be wearing good luck charm gifted by Di CanioWhere to watch 2026 Cheltenham Festival after final race switches TV channelsConstitution Hill advised to skip Cheltenham Festival by rival trainer
